The Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African
American History & Culture has created a new paradigm
for learning that is engaging and visitor-centered
a museum of history and a cultural venue that awakens all
of the senses!
It is a place to explore the diversity of the African American
experience, where collections tell the uniquely American
story of the struggle for liberty, equality and self-determination.
Within its walls, the Reginald F. Lewis Museum offers teachers
and students:
- State-of-the-art exhibitions
- Interactive tours that expand on lessons
created in collaboration with Maryland public schools
- An online Resource Center and Oral History
Recording Studio
- A Distance Learning Classroom
Inspired by the three major themes of the Museums
permanent exhibition labor, art and intellect, and
family and community, groups can discover how Africans brought
the skills of their homeland to America and how African
Americans developed patterns of work and culture that enabled
them to move forward in the New World.
Pre and post visit materials are available to school groups to enhance their museum visit. To obtain these resource materials, please request them when scheduling a field trip.
The Museum provides monthly fun activities and events for children and families, which include storytelling, art workshops and educational programs.
